SUMMARY / SCOPE OF POSTION: Working under time and budget constraints, assumes full responsibility for major projects and personally designs the electrical, electro-optical and electro-magnetic aspects of the product. Develops superior products at cost, on schedule and within an established budget.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform analog circuit design, analysis, build and verification. • Serve as the key analog circuit design resource on product development teams both for local projects and for projects that may be headquartered at any Rockwell Automation facility worldwide. • Design and develop electronics for cost sensitive industrial sensors • With the support of embedded systems, optical, magnetic and mechanical engineering, develop solutions to issues that cross disciplinary boundaries • Perform cross-functional trouble shooting. • May function as a lead product engineer in a product development team tasked to invent, innovate and design the product. • May develop and execute qualification test plans in accordance with RA and agency (CE, UL, CSA) procedures. • Solve issues of performance, quality, and yield in products and coordinate issue resolution with suppliers as required • Deliver new product on schedule, at cost and at budget. • Identify and develop component sources. • Establish and effect qualification tests for new components • Resolve complex technical cross-functional issues regarding component selections, design, testing, reliability, meeting product costing targets, and on-going product improvements. • May supervise, coordinate or review the work of technicians and other engineers.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • B.S. Electrical Engineering, B.S. Physics, or equivalent experience is required. MSEE is desired.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: • Eight to ten years relevant design experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: • Excellent analog design capability required. • Experience with low power analog required. • Working knowledge of low current, noise sensitive analog design desired, • Ability to design products which can be manufactured for low cost is required. • Must be proficient in the use of circuit analysis software. • Must have strong analytical and computational skills. • Must be capable of defining engineering tests to support designs. • Ability to make appropriate and effective use of oral and written English to communicate, cooperate and negotiate with diverse individuals and groups.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE: • Direct experience with sensor products or with adjacent product areas dealing with low-cost electro-optical or electro-magnetic precision assemblies such as consumer electronic products, video, digital cameras, CD drives, or RFID is desired. • Knowledge of local sources of supply of inexpensive, high quality electrical components including LEDs, solid state lasers, photodetectors, ASICs, commercial ICs, discrete analog components, connectors, and cable is desired. • Familiarity with one or more of coil design, magnetic circuit design, rf design, or optics is desired. • Familiarity with use-environment issues such as product packaging, thermal design, and materials selection desired • Ability to make appropriate and effective use of oral and written English to communicate, cooperate and negotiate with diverse individuals and groups is desired. |
